Ladies 60x30 Senior Singles:

Ballymac’s two Senior women in the big court-Ashley Prendeville and Maria Daly had contrasting results in their 60x30 senior singles semi finals. Maria lost to Bernie Hennessy [Limerick] by 21-14, 21-2, while Ashley defeated Marianna Rushe [Roscommon] 21-16, 20-21, 21-13.

Maria went 6-0 behind in the first game before she started to find her feet; over the next thirteen aces it turned into a battle royal between the Kerry and Limerick girl. Daly levelled with Hennessy at 13-13 and seemed to be getting to grips with her opponent, but Bernie pulled away to 17-13 before eventually closing the game out at 21-14. The second game saw Hennessy completetly dominate proceedings, to run out well ahead at the finish to book her final spot in Croke Park. Bernie-who hails from Hospital handball club, is probably the top player in the ladies 60x30 game over the last twenty years. Hennessy showed all her attributes on the day; a cacophony of serves allied to off the air kill and pass shots in equal measure. On the day Maria was beaten by the better player; she will learn from this as she has bounced back from setbacks before and will do so again.

The Ashley Prendeville V Marianna Rushe match turned out to be a see-saw marathon game between these long standing rivals. The first game saw both women play cagey stuff as they went ace for ace over the first quarter; at 12-6 down Ashley produced a few lob tosses to bring it back to 15-15. At this juncture the Kerry girl started to find her range with long range kills to run out 21-14 ahead. Prendeville kicked off in style in the second game running into a 4-0 lead; Rushe responded to go toe to toe with her rival at 11-11. Ashley moved ahead at 20-18 but the nerveless Roscommon girl pulled it from the fire to claim it by 21-20. Rushe sped into a 5-0 lead in the tie break-Prendeville rallied and brought it back to 5-6. Both girls were drained at this stage but were still producing some great handball; at 13-13 Ashley seemed to find her second wind and she crept away to claim a hard fought victory in a classic encounter
