Ballymacelligott Handball Club News 21st April 2002

Ballymacelligott Handball Club added two more names to the list of All Ireland Championship winners last weekend.
Catriona Casey (Ballymac) and Karen Lawlor (Tralee) won the U14 Doubles All Ireland title and Lisa Falvey (Ballymac) and her partner Gemma O Connell (Tralee) won the under 15 Doubles. Both girls won on Sunday last and we congratulate them on their win. The joy of winning for both girls was dimmed a little as their club mate Ashley Prendiville lost in her bid to win the U14 singles title. Ashley played a fantastic game, which was easily the best game of the day in the ladies competition. She was unlucky to lose by one ace in the second game. All the girls put a fantastic amount of work into training all year and a special word of thanks to their coach in Ballymac Siobhan Twomey. Siobhan has trained the girls consistently over the past number of years and this hard work has paid dividends for our girls and our club.

The results of the games are as follows:
U15 Girls Doubles: Gemma O Connell (Tralee) & Lisa Falvey (Ballymac) beat C. Martin and Sarah Lafford (Kilkenny) 21/1, 21/0
U14 Girls Doubles: Karen Lawlor (Tralee) & Catriona Casey (Ballymac) beat Claire Love and Sarah Butler (Kilkenny) 15/9, 15/6
U14 Girls Singles: Aisling Reilly (Antrim) defeated Ashley Prendiville (Ballymac) 15/6 15/14

Maria Daly played the Ladies Minor All Ireland semi-final in Cappagh on Saturday last. She defeated Karen Finnegan (Galway) 21/0, 21/1. Maria will now play in the All Ireland ladies minor final. The date and fixture for this game has not yet been fixed.

Congratulations to Pat McCarthy on being presented with a special award at the ITT Annual Sports Awards evening held at the Earl of Desmond Hotel on Wednesday last. The ITT gave the presentation to Pat in recognition of all the work he did in helping organise and run the 3rd Level colleges All Ireland Handball Championships in Kerry earlier in the year. This was well deserved and it is nice to see Pat's hard work being rewarded.
