MARIA DALY WINS FIRST 40 X 20 MINOR ALL IRELAND FOR KERRY AND BRIDGES 40 YEAR GAP IN MINOR TITLES.
The ladies 40 x 20 minor final was played in Nenagh on Sunday last with Maria Daly winning well with a score of 21/10, 21/17. Maria Daly once again entered the roll of honour when she secured the first 40 x 20 minor title for Kerry and her club Ballymacelligott. The final between Patricia Doyle of Wicklow and Maria Daly was a marvellous game with some great handball being played. Maria won the first game easily and had to dig deep to keep her opponent at bay in the second game. Maria's overhand shots proved to be her greatest ally in the game and she used these shots effectively throughout. Maria had great support in Nenagh when a large attendance of Kerry handball supporters travelled to see the game. We congratulate Maria who brings a minor title to Ballymac and Kerry! The last Kerry person to bring an All Ireland Minor Handball title to Kerry was Murty McEllistrim from Ballymacelligott. Murty won his title in the 60 x 30 court in 1962. As the old seanfhocal says "An rud is annamh is iontach!"
